IQE's Galaxy Compound Semiconductors enhances its measurement capability with new Tropel Flatmaster Surface Form Analysis System

Spokane,WA, 30 April 2013:Galaxy Compound Semiconductors Inc., a member of the IQE Group, the global leading supplier of advanced semiconductor materials, announces enhanced measurement capabilities with the installation of the Tropel FM200 Flatmaster Surface Form Analysis System for the measurement of substrate flatness. The announcement was made at the Defense, Safety and Security, infrared materials conference in Baltimore, ML., which runs from 30 April to 2 May.

The new, state of the art characterisation tool is configured to measure substrates up to 8" (200mm) in diameter and will be used to offer customers superior materials characterisation to meet the the growing demand for large diameter InSb and GaSb products engineered for specific device size applications. The new equipment has been installed and commissioned within the cleanroom polishing area at the Company's manufacturing facility in Spokane, WA. The non-contact, high throughput measurement capabilities of the FM200 will also support the rapid collation of substrate characterisation data processed in real time for customer review.

Patrick Flint, Galaxy's Director of Technology and Business Development, said:

"The FM 200 enables us to provide SEMI-standard, high resolution flatness maps to all of our InSb and GaSb customers.

"The powerful data analysis capabilities of Tropel's Flatmaster system is proving to be very valuable and allows us to manufacture substrates with custom flatness profiles that are delivering benefits to our customer's yield improvement programs."

Galaxy Semiconductors Inc., is a wholly owned subsidiary of IQE plc. The Company produces advanced semiconductor materials for infrared sensing used in a wide range of defense and commercial applications.
