Infinity Fuel Cell and Hydrogen has been awarded a phase three contract under NASA's Small Business Innovation Research program to develop air independent fuel cells for potential use in the Space Launch System.
Infinity said Tuesday it will use contract funds to help advance the company's patented Non Flow Through fuel cell stack and update its Advanced Product Water Removal technology.
"The need for reliable and efficient power systems in space vehicles today is no different than in prior NASA programs," said William Smith, Infinity president and founder.
Smith added all manned space missions since space agency's Gemini program have relied on fuel cells for power and water generation and that the company seeks to offer its air independent power generation technology for both manned and unmanned systems.
The company designed its technology to power underwater vehicles and high altitude aircraft as well as to address the limits of fuel cells in various applications.
Windsor, Connecticut-based Infinity Fuel Cell and Hydrogen markets products such as zero gravity fuel cells, air independent fuel cells, high pressure electrolyzers and zero gravity electrolyzers.
