May 16, 2013 (OVIEDO, Fla.) -- Design Interactive, Inc., a leader in innovative adaptive training solutions, was in Washington D.C. on May 16th to receive the prestigious Tibbetts Award, which is awarded annually to those companies that exemplify the best in the Small Business Innovation and Research (SBIR) program. David Jones, the Director of Medical Innovations at Design Interactive, Inc., received the award at a White House ceremony. More than 1,000 SBIR grants were awarded in 2012. Of these grants, 18 were selected based on the stringent criteria of the Tibbetts Award.

"It was a great honor to be recognized by the SBIR community for our efforts on V-Xtract" said Dr. Kay Stanney, founder and President of Design Interactive. V-Xtract is an adaptive training solution for which Design Interactive received their first Phase III SBIR award in 2012. "V-Xtract is designed to train military and civilian medics on casualty care within the ‘Golden Hour,' the most critical period of casualty treatment" said Jones, V-Xtract Project Manager. "Casualty care cannot be administered when it can be most effective, unless the injured are rapidly evacuated; V-Xtract aims to provide medics with improved capabilities for extrication," Jones said.

Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer states of Design Interactive "Orlando is fortunate to have such a bright and diligent leader like you whose impressive achievements honor our community."

The Tibbetts Awards is named for Roland Tibbetts, acknowledged as the father of the SBIR program, and is presented to companies and individuals that promote the mission and goals of the SBIR program:

to stimulate technological innovation;
to use small business to meet federal research and development needs;
to encourage diverse participation in technological innovation; and
to increase commercialization of Federal research.

V-Xtract embodied each of these criteria by providing a highly innovative towable and reconfigurable solution, meeting the DoD's need for vehicle extrication training, and its efforts to commercialize the solution for use by firefighters and paramedics. V-Xtract is just one of a growing number of adaptive, intuitive, and engaging solutions developed by Design Interactive, Inc. to optimize human performance. Other solutions focus on improved baggage screening skills, small unit decision making, and manufacturing process change management. "Our innovative adaptive systems overcome the one-size-fits-all training solutions of the past, providing each trainee with an individualized experience that significantly improves training outcome," said Stanney.
