CAMBRIDGE, Massachusetts—CDM Smith has acquired Cambridge Environmental Inc. (CEI), a consulting and research firm that assesses and helps to minimize risks to health and the environment. The addition of CEI expands CDM Smith's capabilities in health and ecological risk assessment, environmental and air quality modeling, toxicology, physics, data analysis, chemistry, public health, electromagnetic field assessments, statistics, and related disciplines.
According to CDM Smith Chief Executive Officer, Stephen J. Hickox, "With this acquisition, CDM Smith brings to our federal, state, municipal and industrial clients enhanced capabilities in toxicology, health risk assessment, and related services. CEI's eminent scientists and engineers have served as part-time faculty at MIT, Harvard, Tufts, and the University of Massachusetts and on expert committees of the National Academy of Sciences."
Founded in 1989, CEI has provided environmental health and risk assessment services to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, municipalities, citizens' groups, universities, and many private-sector companies and law firms. CEI has expertise in the environmental and public health aspects of electric power generation, manufacturing, petroleum and petrochemicals, pesticides, construction and construction-products, mining, road and rail transportation, consumer products, pharmaceuticals and foods, real estate redevelopment and waste management. CEI's founder, Laura C. Green, PhD, DABT, will join CDM Smith as a vice president and lead the firm's new group in Environmental Health and Toxicology.
