Newark, Delaware -- ANP Technologies, Inc. (ANP) announced today the extension of its NIDS® rapid bio-threat/bio-warfare agent detection offerings into international markets. Similar to its product lines currently sold to the U.S. Government, the commercial NIDS® handheld biological agent detection system can rapidly detect and identify B. anthracis, Y. pestis, F. tularensis, Ricin toxin, Botulinum toxin A and Botulinum toxin B, as well as SEB toxin in white powders and various aqueous samples within 15 minutes.

The NIDS® detection system consists of multiplexed handheld assays and a handheld reader capable of analyzing assay results under various operational conditions. While exhibiting superior sensitivity and low false positive rates, ANP's handheld assays do not suffer from a Hook effect, a false negative result in the presence of high concentrations of biological agents typical of a white powder event. Hook effect is a serious operational deficiency for all traditional handheld assays, which could result in mass casualties during a bio-terror attack.

Tom Bodnar, ANP Technologies' Chief Business Officer commented, "Since our company's beginnings, we have produced NIDS® multiplexed handheld assays only for the U.S. Government using government reagents. This reliance meant that we were unable to offer these products to governments and first responders internationally. Over the ensuing years, we have methodically built up our own reagents to the point where we can now offer a full line of high quality products to the international market."
