Involving former technical and management staff of the Hewlett Packard (HP) product development division, Vadient Optics was established specifically to commercialize Volumetric Index of Refraction Gradient Optics (VIRGO) lens technology. The Vadient team has fabricated prototype VIRGO nanocomposite optical inks and has demonstrated the capabilities of the 3D gradient refractive index (GRIN) printing technology to form nanocomposite optical films. Vadient Optics was formed to fabricate freeform gradient index nanocomposite optical elements. The firm's Volumetric Index of Refraction Gradient Optics (VIRGO) lens technology reduces size, weight, and power requirements of high-performance electro-optical systems, like efficient solar concentrators, night vision imagers, and professional high-definition televisions (HDTV).
