Public Profile

Structured around providing environmentally sound, locally grown shellfish, for more than two decades Santa Barbara Mariculture Company has pioneered development of new, eco-friendly methods in aquaculture to grow shellfish in the nutrient rich waters of the Santa Barbara Channel. The firm is also collaborating with the State of California to allow for development of offshore shellfish farms using sustainable techniques that do not deplete any of valuable ocean resources. With the firm's farm situated about 3/4-mile off of Hope Ranch near Santa Barbara CA at depth of some 80 feet, the shellfish are grown using submersible long-lines originally developed by the Japanese and using a New Zealand style of rope culture
