In late February 2018 it was announced that Applied Composites Engineering - an aerospace composites engineering and manufacturing providing firm - had acquired San Diego Composites. San Diego Composites (SDC), the only business to win the SBIR Partner of the Year Award twice, is focused on the development, demonstration and insertion of advanced materials and structures into aerospace systems. SDC is currently conducting research and development in four areas: high temperature polymer structures, thermal management systems for high power electronics, advanced composite structures and processes, and opto-mechanical systems (i.e., mirrors and telescopes). All of these applications are materials and structures systems, which require a clear understanding of the design requirements, constraints and design envelop necessary to evolve to a solution that meets customer expectations. In addition to technology development, SDC works as a subsystem integrator, taking customer requirements to design concepts to analytical solutions to hardware prototyping and testing.
