In September 1999, it was announced that the Finnish telecommunications equipment maker Nokia A.B., had acquired the Rooftop Communications Corporation in a move to strengthen its capabilities in Internet protocol technology. Rooftop Communications specialized in multipoint-to-multipoint radio systems that enabled high-speed wireless access to the Internet.. Nokia said the acquisition would give it additional holdings in wireless Internet access, especially in wireless Internet protocol routers.
