In May 2011, MitoScience LLC was acquired by Abcam plc of the UK. MitoScience, a spin-off from the University of Oregon's Monoclonal Antibody Facility specializing in mitochondrial structure and function, has invented over 50 unique monoclonal antibodies against mitochondrial proteins . MitoScience LLC was founded to leverage the study of the mitochondria, mitochondrial-related diseases and the development of mitochondrial specific monoclonal antibodies especially those that capture individual complexes of the mitochondria with preserved function and activity
