Medical Conservation Devices Inc, a spin out of First Wave Technologies, was founded in order to develop and ultimately commercialize a series of proprietary and patented respiratory therapy medical devices. The first commercial product from MCD is a medical device developed for the delivery and conservation of inhaled drugs and medical gases to patients requiring advanced ventilation support, making delivery of inhaled anesthetics practical for the first time for infectious patients and those with severe lung injury. The device can be manufactured either as a disposable or reusable product and can work with any existing ventilator or configured as a ventilator itself. The firm plans to extend this initial technology to deliver therapeutic and sedative medications and improve standard of care for pediatrics, ICU, and hard-to-sedate patients. An estimated addressable market of $1.2 billion exists in these applications alone. Additionally, these devices can be multiplexed allowing up to 8 patients to be ventilated off of a single respirator. The value proposition to hospitals facing limited ventilation and anesthesia resource is clear and compelling.
