CF Technologies, Inc. also dba CF Tech is organized around development of innovative Critical Fluid Processes and Products. The CF experience includes extraction using CO2, dimethyl ether, propane, and pentane, among other solvents and co-solvents. In addition to CF services, CF Tech performs RD&E and is the designer and manufacturer of processing equipment, including the popular DurOLok pressure vessels. DurOLok pressure vessels are ASME Code Stamped, quick-acting, easy to use and long lasting. In-house capabilities include bench scale extractions, pilot scale extractions, small production as well as machine, welding, and fabrication shops, and engineering. What is CF? Critical fluid technology uses the powerful solvent properties of gases compressed at their critical point. Each solvent has a unique critical point, defined by the temperature and pressure at which the liquid and vapor phases become identical. Critical fluids have a useful combination of liquid-like density and solvency, and gas-like viscosity, diffusivity, compressibility and lack of surface tension. These fluids rapidly penetrate substrates and dissolve a wide range of chemicals and compounds. Furthermore, the critical region is characterized by an ability to control solvent power with only minor changes in temperature and pressure. Based on these properties, a number of practical, state-of-the-art industrial processes have been developed. In an earlier period of its operation CF Technologies worked with Raytheon on development of a way efficiently to extract oil shale. That technology was sold to Schlumberger in 2008 with CF continuing to work with the major corporation for seveal years subsequently.
