Advanced Paving Technologies Inc uses lidar laser sensors and advanced computer modeling to develop a solution for the spreading of asphalt on road surfaces. The method currently used to spread asphalt is restricted to two dimensional applications - the machines spread asphalt in a flat manner and are unable to account for things such as pot holes, cracks, or dips in the existing surface, which makes the application of new asphalt time consuming and costly. The firm's solution enables application of asphalt on top of uneven surfaces through the use of a 3-D shaped asphalt layer that results in a smooth and flat surface area. The technology is able to analyze a road's surface and apply a shaped asphalt layer that will fill any depressions, dips, ruts, or bumps and reduce the amount of asphalt that is reprocessed, decrease the time it takes to rehabilitate roads, and decrease construction costs.
