This Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Phase I research project aims to develop a monolithic spiral coil acoustic transduction (MSCAT) immunosensor for the detection of E. coli, in drinking water. The MSCAT sensor is more sensitive than standard ones because it can detect both electrical and mechanical property changes caused by a target analyte. Fast, sensitive and reliable detection of bacterial contaminants in water is of great interest to public health officials and the technology developed in this project may be expanded to cover other microorganisms as well
