A simplified reconnaissance-type test is proposed that utilizes the techniques of tracer gas ventilation testing to quantify the unfiltered air inleakage into an operating nuclear power plant control room. The test will be developed to encompass the five basic types of control room emergency ventilation systems. A thorough error analysis will also be undertaken. A detailed testing protocol suitable for use by responsible plant personnel, outside service contractors, and NRC staff will be generated.
Anticipated Results:Development of a test and testing protocol that measures control room inleakage under actual operating conditions will enhance safety of nuclear power plants by allowing accurate analysis of control room habitability conditions.
