Tuberculosis is TB killed an estimated million people in the world in Over of the mortalities associated with this disease occurred in regions of the world where access to reliable TB testing and other supportive infrastructure is severely limited. Until there are pivotal technological innovations in the diagnosis of TB for point of care POC application the ambitious goals of the WHO s End TB strategy reduction in TB mortality and reduction in TB incidence by will remain beyond reach. New technological advances in cloud computing smart phone features applications and diagnostic testing are poised to play a pivotal role in changing this situation. This project will couple smart phone technology communications with a rapid inexpensive and easy to use POC test for TB that can be performed in any location by virtually untrained staff and can provide an accurate diagnosis in under minutes. Upon successful completion of these technical objectives a detailed assessment of the technology plan including a cost time analysis will be used to justify the development and field evaluation of a beta prototype for movement to Phase II funding
