By using different precision navigation systems on land and in the water, the Navy and Marine Corps lack the ability to effectively mark, visualize, and synchronize assault lanes in the littorals with a single integrated system. To address this critical capability gap, Charles River Analytics proposes to analyze, design, and demonstrate the feasibility of a conceptual single amphibious integrated precision augmented-reality navigation system (SAIPAN). Charles River’s SAIPAN concept provides a scalable and integrated cloud-based architecture for combining synthetic vision with a precision navigation solution. First, we will develop a comprehensive World Model Data Foundation (WMDF) to ingest, aggregate, and format disparate data. Second, we will design a set of Integrated Projection and Video Services (IPVS) to fuse processed and stabilized 2D camera feed data with visual overlays from different geographic information system (GIS)-based chart and layers information. Third, the outputs from the IPVS will drive the design and development of prototype Multi-Function Mission Displays (MFMD) that use intuitive augmented reality methods and robust input mechanisms to improve operator awareness and system interaction in challenging work environments. Fourth, we will conduct a Vehicle-Dependent Hardware Suite trade study that incorporates COTS and GOTS components to provide a development roadmap for different targeted platforms which will lead to an on-water integrated system demonstration and evaluation on a representative platform for execution in the Option period.
