MUOS call processing payloads on Nanosats will provide enhanced UHF SATCOM coverage at the poles of the earth and in areas where direct line of sight to the geosynchronous satellites are obstructed by geographical features such as mountainous terrain and slot canyons. This project will assess the feasibility of miniaturizing W5's standalone portable MUOS emulator, the Mighty MUOOS, into a MUOS call processing payloads for use on Nanosats. Once we have determined this is possible, this payload will provide a cost effective and persistent MUOS extension which will provide UHF SATCOM coverage not possible with previous geosynchronous satellite systems.

Benefit:
Beyond the benefit of providing an extension to the MUOS system, this payload could be used as a test bed for next generation UHF SATCOM systems based on current date cellular technology.

W5's N171-098 SBIR effort is to ensure information dominance by providing our warfighters with fast and reliable communication links ANYWHERE in the world. To achieve this goal, W5 has proposed augmenting the Mobile User Objective System (MUOS) coverage with MUOS call processing payloads in Low Earth Orbit (LEO). This is made possible by miniaturizing W5's Mighty MUOOS, the worlds first and only MUOS System emulator.

Benefit:
Provide MUOS System spot beam coverage to areas not covered well by geosynchronous satellites. Beyond the MUOS System, the miniaturized call processing payload can host other cellular standards or be used as a test bed for future narrow-band UHF SATCOM systems.
