Maintaining the many types of legacy weapon systems within the Department of Defense (DoD) is an enormous task. The challenge is intensified by the fact that many Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) have ceased producing parts for these aging systems, leading to a situation where parts become obsolete due to the inability to procure them. This problem is further complicated by lack of sufficient documentation for fabricating or building new components, a result of the technological limitations at the time these weapon systems were designed and built. Another significant challenge in maintaining DoD equipment is the high cost associated with procuring materials, especially when there is no competition among suppliers. Developing competition for components can be difficult when the government does not have data or sufficient documentation to enable new sources to be developed. To address these challenges and meet the needs of the warfighter, the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) has developed a legacy of success in the advancement of critical manufacturing technologies that support our national security, along with developing a trusted small business manufacturing (SBM) network to fortify DLA supply chains. To become part of this trusted network, SBMs need to successfully partner with the DLA to provide the below solutions to replace obsolete non procurable parts. A&B Foundry is a SBM located in Franklin Ohio with extensive experience in supporting the DoD and related commercial industries and is seeking to enhance their partnership with the DLA. For this proposal, A&B has been in direct contact with Alyssa Gerlach at the US Army DEVCOM Ground Vehicle Systems Center ESA. Ms. Gerlach requested source development of the remote controller needed to support the Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles.
