Autosopher are self-learning brain-like devices operating according to a mathematical theory of "learning" and a new information theory first published in 1975 (Patent 4,366,551). Self-learning autosophy tree networks are already used for data and video compression. Early publications in 1977 and 1979 predicted that this technology would eventually replace the programmed data processing computer with a self-learning, brain-like, no-programming autosopher. Conventional computer programming would be replaced by education similar to human education. However, autosophers require very large Content Addressable Memories, which were not available, limiting applications to data and image compression. A new Content Addressable Read Only Memory (CAROM) now removes that obstacle. A CAROM could store huge amounts of information in a very small space with extreme low power consumption. An Autosopher decision aid box may be envisioned like a small solar or battery powered electronic book using a Liquid Crystal Display cover to display text and images. New information are entered via keyboard, digital cameras or microphones in a universal format for merging with a master autosopher. Information is retrieved by simply asking for it via keyboard or spoken commands. Update information is communicated via the Internet or digital radio.The new CAROM memory in combination with Autosophy data compression may store huge amounts of text, images or sound. It may replace the Compact Disc (CDROM) with a solid state version requiring no turntable or lasers. Eventually the Autosopher may evolve into brain-like devices to largely replace the now dominant programmed data processing computer.
