The objective of this proposal is the engineeringdevelopment and microbiological testing of compact systems forthe rapid cleaning and sterilization of surgical and dentalinstruments and other heat sensitive medical devices. Implicitin this objective is the development of an environmentally andpersonnel safe system which is easily used by operating roompersonnel. The overall goal of this program is the developmentof a system which is smaller, less costly, and safer than benchtop autoclaves which have a total instrument turn around time ofunder 15 minutes. Phase I studies have indicated that this goalis achievable.
