United States Air Force pilot training is operating on largely the same architectures and philosophies developed decades ago. The B-1 Training System is a legacy design that is expensive to sustain as the aircraft progresses through regular upgrades. Recent attempts to modernize training have exhibited mixed results due to the limitations of some Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) components and ad-hoc approaches. Aero Simulation, Inc. (ASI), has developed a lightweight, containerized Virtual Reality Aircrew Training Device (VRATD) using internal Research and Development (R&D) funds that can extend to the B-1. This device combines cutting-edge COTS gaming hardware and software with the highest fidelity Weapon System software to create an innovative and cost-effective immersive training device for B-1 pilots. The lightweight, containerized B-1 VRATD will have the following features: -High resolution VR Headset -Advanced hand tracking with haptic feedback -B-1 specific Cursor Controller -Gaming Engine Out-The-Window (OTW) visuals and cockpit -Actual aircraft Operational Flight Programs (OFPs) -Weapon System Trainer (WST) high-fidelity host -High-fidelity B-1 specific aerodynamic and engine modelling -Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS) gateway for DMO -Easy operation and control through single control interface -Open Source Instructor Operating Station (IOS) available within the VR headset -Cybersecure for receiving an ATO or ATC
