Installation and maintenance of aircraft wiring is currently a manual process that requires technicians to decipher complex 2-dimensional wiring diagrams and translate their meaning to a 3-dimensional aircraft. As a result, significant opportunity exists for errors to be introduced that can result in costly rework or, in worst case scenarios, catastrophic system failure. Pison Technology, along with our partners at The Boeing Company, are actively pursuing development of a system for Gesture Enhanced Augmented Reality (GEAR) to provide AR wiring overlays to technicians to facilitate accurate wiring installation and maintenance in real time. The GEAR system builds upon the Boeing Augmented Reality Kit (BARK), which is an already robust and TRL 9 AR solution for aircraft wiring and part installation guidance. We are extending the BARK solution through integration of Pison’s patented electroneurography (ENG) wrist-born gesture- detection wearable (TRL 5) to enable hands-free / on-task / on-tool interactions with AR guidance interfaces while on the job. The integrated solution will reduce training times, maintenance and retrofit timelines, and technician errors, yielding significant ROI across the USAF and broader DOD. Under the proposed Phase 1 effort, we will leverage the advanced TRL of our prototype solution to enable feasibility testing with key USAF PEO customers and end-user communities that have already been identified within our team’s existing network. Through love demonstrations of GEAR technology we will define requirements to address specific USAF end-user needs that will allow us to prioritize our development efforts towards the needs of a committed transit partner under a follow-on Phase 2 effo
