This proposal describes a novel implementation of a V-band tunable filter. Preliminary simulations indicate that a 2% bandwidth can be achieved with insertion losses of approximately 1 dB from WR-12 waveguide flange to flange (no de-embedding) and an unoptimized tuning range of 80-85 GHz. Larger tuning range should be achievable. The tuning technology allows for high power handling compared with varactor technologies, and much higher band switching speeds (100's of nanoseconds) compared with YIG technologies with no steady-state power dissipation.

This proposal details the feasibility, design, implementation, risk mitigation, and plan for construction of prototype millimeter-wave, electronically tunable filters. Such a technology can achieve near fixed frequency filter performance while tuning over a respectable bandwidth enabling applications to take advantage of reduced size, weight, and potentially additional bandwidth.
