Phase I year
1994
Phase I Amount
$60,000
The objective is to develop a design for a broadband (5 percent or greater) millimeter wavelength high fineness ratio radome. The transmission efficiency is expected to be greater than 60 percent across the frequency band, antenna scan angles and flight (temperature) profile. Antenna pattern shift and distortion will be minimized and resistance to ground handling, rain erosion, flight loads and thermal stresses will be included in the design. Proven computer radome programs will be used to develop a 5 percent or greater broadband design for 90 GHz with a radome having an L/D ratio between 2.5 and 3.0. Limited testing will be performed on unknown properties of materials or material combinations which are developed during Phase I. Up to three approaches will be selected for further development based on performance, manufacturability and cost.
