QuantaSpec Inc. produces quantum cascade laser systems for the standoff detection of explosives, chemicals, and bacteria. QuantaSpec is also developing reagentless biological identification systems. Current research projects include developing systems for standoff detection of explosives, chemicals, biological, and radiological materials. Past research has included development of computer algorithms that automatically identify bacterial species from their infrared signatures, modeling and measurement of atmospheric transmission of laser light, measurement of infrared/ultra-violet absorption of cockpit canopy materials and prototyping/demonstrating remote sensing of explosive vapors. QuantaSpec has also developed patent pending methods for long-range, sensitive, and selective standoff detection of explosives and has demonstrated additional explosive detection capabilities and improvements.
