Having in March 2009 been acquired in a $12.2 mm cash transaction by Enzo Biochem - itself having been an SBIR involved firm. Assay Designs became part of Enzo's gene analysis division Enzo Life Sciences. Assay Designs had been organized around the development of chemiluminescent and bioluminescent systems and their use for the measurement of low concentration analytes. In July 2005 Assay Designs Inc, had acquired the Canadian firm Stressgen Bioreagents - a firm formed by Ampersand Ventures ithat had earlier acquired Stressgen Biotechnologies - a firm involved inthe development of protein-based immunotherapeutics for infectious disease and cancer.
