Public Profile

Micro-Optics Technologies Inc, also doing business as Fibersound, specializes in electro-optics and electro-acoustics. The firm develops, manufactures, and markets fiber optic acoustic microphones and headset speakers for communication in difficult and hazardous environments. Fiber optic technology is able to overcome limitations of traditional electrical technology in electrically noisy environments and hazardous ambient environments in order to secure data in situations where radiated electrical signals cannot be tolerated. The firm’s Fiber Optic Microphone, FOM1, provides interference free communication in electrically noisy environments using an optical system that converts acoustic signals directly to a modulated light signal. Since no electrical signals are generated in the microphone or the fiber optic cables, the microphone can provide secure and interference-free communication in chemically or electrically hazardous conditions. The low light loss in the fiber allows cable lengths up to 1500 meters without the need for intermediate amplification. The microphone is available with a completely non-metallic construction to permit use in areas of high magnetic fields, such as inside the bore of an MRI machine to allow communication with the patient.
