Public Profile

VaporSens LLC, spun-out of the University of Utah, is an advanced sensor research firm developing a monitor that continuously senses for explosives, narcotics, or toxic chemical threats in the air 24/7 - like a smoke detector. The company's technology uses patented nanofibers to detect low levels of chemicals for quality control, food safety, environmental monitoring, gas leaks, and security and defense applications. The automated device can be combined with current imaging technologies to monitor the air for explosives or narcotics at critical infrastructure locations, apartment complexes, hotels, ports, and so on. It could also be a stand-alone unit to continuously monitor military bases, buildings, subways, etc. The firm is also developing a handheld detector to help law enforcement, border security, and other public safety officials find controlled substances in vehicles, trailers, and on a personÂ’s body. Current capabilities for the detector include Methamphetamine, Heroin and Cocaine, with future capabilities such as Marijuana to be added to the deviceÂ’s capabilities.
