ANN ARBOR, MI -- Thomson Reuters has acquired ProfSoft, Inc., a healthcare technology company that provides health plans with analytic software and services to assess physician and hospital performance.

The terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

"ProfSoft's solutions will enhance the clinical performance measurement capabilities we provide to our healthcare payer customers," said Jon Newpol, executive vice president of the healthcare and science business of Thomson Reuters.

ProSoft has a strong track record in creating evidence-based clinical rules, which are designed to help customers better understand opportunities for improving the quality and cost of care, he said.

ProfSoft founder Ed Bassin and other managers will join Thomson Reuters, which plans to retain ProfSoft's two offices in Needham, Mass., and Dayton, Ohio.
