Monitoring of mechanical structures and early detection of potential failures is important and sensors connected with wires to a central data processing location are impractical, especially for moving structures. Whenever possible, energy harvesting will be employed, since energy harvesting eliminates batteries as power supplies. Batteries add cost and require maintenance, a detriment to effective sensor solutions.
