To protect the integrity of metal components of high-power engines - eg jet plane engines - components are ceramic coated with "very precious" rare earth metals - usually sprayed and involving considerable loss of valuable materials. Xylon Technical Ceramics has developed a process by which to recover that ceramic coating "overspray" – with the added capability of refurbishing those formerly 'lost' product into fresh coating materials. Following the firm's first substantial commercial order locally together (with their production partner TAM Ceramics Inc. Xylon Technical Ceramics has built on that effort to develop a process to recover rare earth silicates for the next generation coatings developed by NASA and others ensuring a ready supply for years to come.
