Previously doing business as StemCor Systems Inc. - renamed RegenMed Systems in 2010 - is a medical device company working in the regenerative medicine space, having created the MarrowMiner, a minimally invasive system for collecting bone marrow from the pelvis. This leading-edge, FDA-approved, rapid, minimally-invasive, and clinically-proven system for harvesting bone marrow from a single puncture under local anesthesia: less painful, faster and more cost effecive thatn traditional systems. The original goal of creating the MarrorMiner device had been to harvest stem cells that reside in bone marrow to use in stem cell treatments to treat heart disease. This approach was intended to replace the current method of multiple, painful intrusions with a needle and syringe. The initial success of the marrow collection design allowed StemCor Systems to partner with two companies, Hospira and Orthovita, to create two different bone marrow collecting devices. With the MarrowMiner, physicians create a small incision at the pelvis and lead the device through the cortical bone wall and into the bone marrow space to collect large volumes of healthy bone marrow from a single entry point. The device consists of a motor, battery, drive system, switches, removable rotating collection tube, and a handle that houses all of the components.
