Acquired by Coherent (NASDAQ: COHR) in July 2015, Raydiance, Inc. develops and produces commercial-grade ultrafast laser by integrating photonic, computing, and software technologies. The firm offers Smart Light, an ultrafast laser technology platform, which is a plug and play system that can ablate various materials, such as glass, polymer, metal, and tissue. Also offered is RayOS, an embedded software control and operating system that provides control over various internal laser operations. Raydience provides solutions for the medical device manufacturing, medical therapies, biosciences, industrial laser processing, and defense markets. Formerly known as Ablation Industries, Inc. in 2004 AOL CEO Barry Schuler started Raydiance in Florida after DARPA recruited him to commercialize technology developed by the University of Central Florida. The company moved to Petaluma in 2007 and expanded it to offices twice as large in 2012.
