Creare has developed compact, high-efficiency blowers and comfortable, low-leakage closures for chem-bio protective gear that will enabledevelopment of a powered air purifying respirator (PAPR) with a high protection factor and low size, weight, and power consumption (SWaP).Our system will provide higher protection factors than conventional PAPR technology and be much more comfortable to wear thanrespirators that employ tight rubber seals against the users skin. Creare proposes to develop this comfortable PAPR by sizing our previouslydemonstrated, high-efficiency blower technology to a low-SWaP PAPR air supply and pairing the air supply with innovative, higher-protectionrespirator designs. The resulting PAPR technology will be applicable to a variety of respiratory protection needs, including emergency escape, laboratory and field work in low-hazard conditions, and some combat and combat support activities. In Phase I, we will create a preliminarydesign for a PAPR system for a particular operational concept and then produce and test a rudimentary respirator prototype in laboratorytests. The preliminary designs, performance estimates, and laboratory tests will prove the feasibility of our low-SWaP air supply and respiratorapproaches. In Phase II, we will refine the designs and produce and test prototype PAPR systems.Powered air purifying respirator,PAPR,individual protection

Phase II

The proposed low-SWaP PAPR technology improves the convenience, comfort, and protection level for respirators used in low-threat hazardous environments. Creare’s PAPR technology will be applicable to a variety of respiratory protection needs, including emergency escape, laboratory and field work in low-hazard conditions, and some combat and combat support activities. The PAPR will improve user functionality, task performance, and task duration.
