MayoRochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic has entered into a collaboration with Imago Systems, a Lansdowne, Va.-based software company using artificial intelligence for the early detection of abnormalities in imaging data.

Under the multiyear agreement, Mayo Clinic will provide financial backing to help Imago develop technology for breast imaging analysis. Additionally, Mayo Clinic researchers will lead and participate in clinical studies to validate the software, which aims to detect early-stage breast cancer in mammograms and other imaging data.

Imago's technology uses AI algorithms to uncover more information and insight from traditional grayscale images. The software does not require any additional radiation exposure, and therefore has the potential to be a safe and effective method for improving the diagnostic abilities of radiologists and clinicians, according to Thomas Ramsay, Imago's chairman and CEO.
