Initial flight testing of the VA002's innovative and robust airframe was completed this summer in restricted airspace, under a NASA 2010 SBIR Phase 1 effort. In addition to proving specific launch and recovery techniques, the VA002 payload bay was equipped with an airborne particle sensor provided by NASA.
