Anchored in work previously undertaken by the Founders and funded by the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) and National Science Foundation (NSF) the effort is to improve field drug testing, as well as other on-site chemical analyses. Idem LLC is currently structured around enabling law enforcement accurately to identify unknown substances on-site. The plan is subsequenly to expand into other areas of chemical analysis to improve the time it takes to obtain reliable results. The IDem Systems mobile app is designed to contain a reference database of common substances of abuse encountered in the field, as well as new synthetic compounds conventional chemical tests cannot identify or detect. This app is intended to allow the user to capture an image of the color spectrum produced by a drug sample and identify it within seconds by comparing and matching the results to the reference database.
