Public Profile

In November 2016, it was widely reported that QD Vision - previously dba Color IQ - had been acquired by Samsung Elecronics though other sources indicate the transaction as IP based. Working in the space of viisible emitting quantum dots, QD Vision is a nanomaterials product company delivering a new generation of display and lighting solutions. QD Vision’s technology harnesses the unique light-emitting properties of a new class of nanomaterials called quantum dots. The company’s advanced materials and components illuminate a broad range of applications, including flat panel displays, solid state lighting systems, and defense and security projects. With major ties to MIT QD vision has/had become a major player in quantum dot display technology for QLED displays - quantum dots being a type of semiconductor crystal that allows a wider gamut of color in a displayed picture and is a superior next-generation alternative to OLED displays, providing unparalleled color representation at a highly competitive LCD cost structure. Color IQ™ quantum dot technology from QD Vision provides a unique optical cColor IQ - omponent solution capable of delivering “full-gamut” color to the display industry. The firm develops nanotechnology-based optical products for display and solid state lighting applications worldwide. Its products include The Quantum Light platform, which exploits the light-emitting properties of semiconductor nanocrystals and enables step-change advances in current generation solutions, such as liquid crystal displays (LCDs), light emitting diodes (LEDs), and organic LEDs; and Quantum Light optic, which enables LED lighting companies to produce lamps and down light fixtures that combine the warmth and color of incandescent bulbs with the energy efficiency of LED technology. The company's platform targets at various opportunities in the consumer electronics industry, including the mobile phone/mobile device market, and larger area LCDs for desktop and notebook computers and televisions. QD Vision also offers its quantum dot technology for critical applications in energy, transportation, security, and defense. The firm spunout of a project funded in 2005 by the MIT Deshpande Center for Technological Innovation.
