VitaminSea LLC, a family-owned seaweed harvesting and processing company. Seaweed is a non-pollutant, renewable and -- harvested properly - a sustainable resource. The firm is creating a range of products from the seaweed to include animal food, nutritional supplements, plant fertilizers and skin-care products. The company is using the awarded SBIR funds to explore the market potential of kelp as a nutritional supplement and natural preservative - that commercialization potentially benefitting Maine's coastal fishing communities.
