Anchored in work undertaken at the University of Illinois, Prenosis Inc is a healthcare company committed to detecting (and preventing downstream consequences) by enabling diagnosis of diseases before symptoms occur: transforming clinical diagnosis by employing artificial intelligence to leverage holistic molecular and clinical data. It is the objective of the Prenosis team to produce diagnostic tests that are convenient to use, as well as to develop a comprehensive health database actually to predict the onset of a disease. Using Prenosis's technology to detect diseases, it is the firm expectation that they can pre-treat diseases using pre-symptomatic medicine. The company's technology involves several microfuidic and electrical sensors known as "first degree sensing", with one drop of blood the device measures biomarkers pointing to an elevated immune response. In November 2021, the company was awarded a $4.3M project by DOD utilizing point-of-care predictive diagnostics to improve early sepsis identification for warfighters
