StabiLux Biosciences is a Michigan Technological University (MTU) spinoff company developing proprietary, high-brightness fluorophores targeted at biomedical applications, particularly for use in multi-color flow cytometry. A staple of biological research and clinical diagnostics Flow cytometry is a laser based fluorescence technique for medical diagnostics and cell analysis and sorting. Flow cytometry is capable of utilizing 18 simultaneous color channels, but current reagents on effectively mark a few colors at a time. Current flow cytometry is limited by: Weak signals from low abundant cells, Spillover (signal overlapping) and Autofluorescence (background noise) Though current flow cytometer allows for such multi-color applications, existing fluorophore reagent technology inhibits utilization of the hardware to its full potential. If more colors could be effectively used, more subsets of data could be attained for a given test run, improving data output and accelerating time to market for researchers and medical diagnostic discovery. StabiLux has developed proprietary, high-brightness fluorophores which improves the reagents that run through flow cytometers. The firm's platform technology will apply to all color channels and is compatible with current flow cytometers, eliminating the need for any additional equipment. This would enable Researchers to sort cells more effectively and attain more data subsets within a given test run - sigificantly reducing time required. Additionally, equipment manufacturers are releasing higher end flow cytometry that requires even more reagent capability. Stabilux fluorophores can now create reagents that can be specified with these new machines.
