eWind is developing a cost effective airborne wind energy system (AWES), a wind energy generation system that accesses more consistent, reliable winds at higher altitudes than those reached by traditional wind turbines. The first stage is a model designed for small farms. It bridges the gap between very small renewable energy systems of less than 10 kW and utility scale systems of more than 100 kW. The firm is currently in the product development and testing stage.Once commercialized, the eWind system is expected to deliver clean, renewable electrical power with a levelized cost of $0.05 to $0.07kWh (comparable to hydroelectric).
