Public Profile

In October 2013, it was announced that Vidacare would be acquired by acquired by Teleflex Incorporated (NYSE: TFX) in a cash transaction. Vidacare is in the development of medical devices to greatly improve the ability of emergency health professionals to administer life saving drugs and fluids. The firm's FDA-cleared EZ-IO product system, consisting of the EZ-IO AD for patients weighing over 40 kg and EZ-IO PD for patients weighing between 3 and 39 kg, provides immediate access to the intraosseous space. The small battery-powered device safely penetrates through the bone in seconds with a specifically designed and patented beveled, hollow drill tipped needle. Users are able to select between the EZ-IO AD and EZ-IO PD needles based on the weight of the patient, therefore making the device a life saving tool for patients of all ages and sizes. When traditional IV access is challenging or impossible, the EZ-IO product system offers great promise for every serious emergency that requires rapid and reliable vascular access. Vidacare Corporation is a medical device company owns the exclusive rights to innovative intraosseous technology developed at the University of Texas Health Science Center-San Antonio.
