In Novembr 2005, Force10 Networks, a provider of gigabit and 10-gigabit Ethernet routers and switches, acquired MetaNetworks, a developer of line-rate 10 Gigabit intrusion detection and prevention technology. Metanetworks Inc. was founded as a research and consulting firm dedicated to the advancement of science and technology. One project ahs focused on providing innovative system and network management solutions for Active Networks. In collaboration with ISI and SRI, the Active Networks Backbone (ABONE) was built and formulated an active network management architecture with Columbia University. The system management software that has enabled the creation of the ABONE (Anetd) was derived from the ANCORS project and later transitioned to the ACTIVATE project. Metanetworks Technologies, Inc. is a spinoff of Metanetworks Inc. dedicated to the commercialization of advanced network security research. We are currently bringing to market an innovative, high-performance hardware network processing technology aimed at leveraging the use of open source network security software in the detection and elimination of network security threats.
