Public Profile

Monitor Instruments is an instrument development and manufacturing company focusing on new state of the art technology in mass spectrometry. The firm is focused to development and commercialization of cycloidal mass spectrometer technology. The company’s modern CMS designs offer exceptional stability and sensitivity, making them ideal chemical monitors. Monitor Instruments is sharply focused on extending the range of applications for this technology by developing and manufacturing instruments that are increasingly smaller and more rugged with higher resolution and sensitivity. The company currently manufactures a series of linear cycloidal mass spectrometers that are used to monitor chemical and pharmaceutical manufacturing processes and in sophisticated clinical applications, worldwide. The high performance, small size and energy efficient instrumentation developed in this program will expand the range of application oriented solutions supplied by Monitor Instruments. In April 2005, the firm announced a major three year collaboratieve agreemtn with the world famos Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute using a new mass spectrometer for longterm unattended deployment. The mass spectrometer will be based on Monitor Instruments’ miniature cycloidal mass analyzer technology, with oceanographic components developed by WHOI. Testing and trial deployments will be carried out by WHOI at its Deep Submergence Laboratory and Martha’s Vineyard Coastal Observatory. Monitor Instruments will carry out commercialization of this instrument, which will be known as TETHYS (TETHered Yearlong Spectrometer). TETHYS will be optimized for long-term measurement of low molecular weight dissolved biogenic, atmospheric, noble gases and light hydrocarbon fractions as well. The instrument will utilize techniques currently under development at WHOI to enable automated re-calibration in-situ and will also include measures for antifouling, an essential consideration for long-term deploymen
