BETHPAGE, N.Y., Jan. 28, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- On January 7, 2013, a capacity crowd of administrators and officials from schools, universities, hospitals, and local corporations attended the Active Shooter Seminar at Adelphi University hosted by Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano and the Nassau County Police Department. The Newtown tragedy has brought new awareness to the reality of an active shooter situation and while the hope is to never have to face such an incident, Nassau County is leading the nation in preparing school administrators. The safety and security of the children is of utmost concern and the Nassau County Police Department continues to advance preventative measures that enhance education and preparedness.

At the seminar, the Nassau County Police Department featured new technology that significantly improves their ability to manage crisis situations. The system, developed by VCORE Solutions in Bethpage, NY, provides the department with a real-time view of their assets such as cameras, GPS data, license plate readers, and ShotSpotter sensors all on a single screen known as a Common Operating Environment. The VCORE system provides the NCPD the ability to monitor their environment continuously, giving them an advantage in knowing what is going on in the County at all times as well as enhancing their ability to respond to emergency events.
The power of the VCORE technology is the ability to integrate information from multiple systems simultaneously. Through participation in the Common Operating Environment, any school, hospital, malls, and private entities will be able to monitor their facilities, and share access to their cameras with the NCPD during times of emergency. Scott Meyers, Chief Operating Officer of VCORE Solutions demonstrated this to the seminar audience and indicated that the information shared with NCPD, "can include cameras, detailed floor plans, alarms and most other networked systems and can dramatically improve the effectiveness of first responders."
