In September 2005, Image-Guided was acquired by Medtronic. Image-Guided Neurologics, (IGN) develops access, navigation and delivery products for less invasive neurosurgical techniques. The company is developing and commercializing products that are designed to expand the applications for frameless sterotaxy and improve the speed with which these procedures can be performed. The company has developed and currently is marketing imaged guided access and navigation devices that are used to perform less invasive neurosurgical procedures either in the operating room when guided by image guided workstations or in MR- (magnetic resonance) or CT- (computer tomography) scanners to treat neurological abnormalities and neurodegenerative diseases such as tumors, epilepsy, and Parkinson's Disease. The company is also developing delivery products that can be targeted using the company's access and navigation devices to precisely deliver various therapeutic agents (drugs and cells).
