A new programmable wireless foot pedal makes it possible to perform hands-free page turning of electronic documents on iPads, Android tablets, Macs, and PCs. The pedal, known as the PageFlip Firefly, will be available in January 2014 for worldwide distribution directly from PageFlip. The Hal Leonard Corporation has agreed to handle U.S. retail channel distribution. PageFlip has launched a Kickstarter campaign through December 5, 2013 to accept pre-orders. The PageFlip Firefly is a wireless Bluetooth pedal designed to meet the needs of musicians and people with disabilities who struggle with the challenge and inconvenience of page turning. By simply tapping the left or right pedal of the PageFlip Firefly, digital content on tablets/computers can now be scrolled in the forward or reverse directions for convenient hands-free page turning.

The PageFlip Firefly emulates a standard keyboard and works with any software that uses keyboard strokes to navigate through digital files. For added versatility, the user may select among five preset modes for the dual pedals: PageUp/PageDown, Left/Right arrow, Up/Down arrow, Left/Right mouse click, and Space/Enter. Changing modes is as simple as pressing a button.

The PageFlip Firefly works with iPads under select keyboard-compatible apps such as forScore, MusicReader, unrealBook, Deepdish GigBook, and OnSong. The Firefly also works with Android tablets using select apps such as MobileSheets, MusicNotes, Moon+ Reader, and EBookDroid.

The PageFlip Firefly has a retail price of $109.95. It can be powered by two AA batteries or via a USB AC adapter (not included). The PageFlip Firefly offers unique features such as programmable modes, illuminated pedals, wireless or wired operation, a long 30-minute timeout period, and an autorepeat mode for fast browsing or scrolling. The Firefly is equipped with two 1/8" mono auxiliary outlets to attach external pedals or switches, such as breath-controlled sip-and-puff switches or lightweight JellyBean pushbuttons.

PageFlip has reached a deal with Milwaukee-based Hal Leonard Corporation to distribute the pedal to all retail channels in the US. Comments Brad Smith, Senior Sales and Marketing Manager for Hal Leonard, "With the popularity of the iPad and many other such sheet music-friendly electronic devices becoming available, the market is ripe for the Firefly and other great products that support the needs of today's wired and mobile musicians. PageFlip has always been on the forefront of offering affordable, wireless devices for the mobile market. Hal Leonard is excited to team with PageFlip to distribute the new Firefly as it offers another reliable solution to this growing market."

PageFlip CTO George Wolberg echoes the sentiment: "The association with Hal Leonard extends our product availability to retail channels that have hitherto not been available to us. We think this broader market reach will result in much greater adoption of PageFlip page turners by users who value the benefits of hands-free page turning."

The widespread proliferation of laptops, iPads, and other portable tablets give musicians and people with disabilities more options in storing and displaying their sheet music, books, and other electronic documents. The PageFlip Firefly now offers these users a compact, ergonomic, rugged, and fully embedded solution for convenient hands-free page turning.

PageFlip was founded in New York in 2002. The company develops, manufactures, and markets automatic page turning technology for the benefit of musicians, people with disabilities, and avid readers. Unlike other products on the market, PageFlip offerings are designed to provide a bi-directional hands-free solution that is reliable, compact, silent, and low-cost.
