A Beavercreek-based firm has won a U.S. Air Force research deal that could be worth as much as $42 million.
On Wednesday, UES Inc. was awarded the seven-year contract to perform on-site work at the Air Force Research Laboratory. It includes analysis development, experimentation and reporting.
AFRL is based at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, near Dayton.
It was unclear how the contract would impact employment at UES, which recently reported having about 180 workers. Company officials could not immediately be reached for comment.
Founded in 1973, UES performs high-tech research and development in the area of materials, computer science, physics and biotechnology. Most of its work is done for the military.
UES reported $27 million in revenue for 2010.
With the UES deal, Dayton-area firms have combined to win more than $125 million in defense contracts in recent weeks. This includes:
• Dayton-based Dayton Bag & Burlap, which landed a five-year deal that could be worth as much as $75 million to supply the U.S. Army and Marine Corps with sandbags;
• Beavercreek-based Sawdey Solutions Services Inc., which was awarded a $3.7 million, one-year contract to provide program management support services for the Defense Department's comptroller; and
• BerrieHill Research Corp., a sensors technology firm in Centerville, which snagged a $5 million, five-year contract to develop advanced computational tools that can be used on electromagnetic problems.
